After birth, chiropractic care can help transition the body and spine back to optimum health and performance. During the transition from premenopausal life to postmenopausal life (referred to as the perimenopause stage), spinal adjustment can help regulate hormone production in the body.

Women’s health issues are numerous, and chiropractic care can help. Chiropracital offers many treatment options for the many health issues specific to women and women’s health. What can Chiropractic Care Help with During Pregnancy?

Pubic Symphysis Pain:

During pregnancy, the hormone Relaxin allows the ligaments stabilizing the pubic symphysis to relax, and therefore allows the joints to move and separate. Also called Symphysis Pubic Dysfunction, this condition produces pain and limitation of mobility.

Sciatic Nerve Pain:

Some studies suggest that the baby’s growth contributes to direct compression of the sciatic nerve, which results in low back pain with radiation into the legs.

Sacroiliac Pain

Hormonal changes during pregnancy cause laxity in ligaments, which allows traditionally stable and primarily weight-bearing sacroiliac joints to move and shift to accommodate the pregnancy. This increased mobility puts stress on the ligaments and muscles, which can cause pain.

Low Back Pain:

Routine chiropractic care can help manage back pain associated with pregnancy. Low back pain is caused by increased stress on the lumbar spine by an anterior shift in the center of gravity. Muscles tighten to compensate, and gait patterns change because of the added weight and pressure. The pain ranges from mild to severe, depending on the patient’s activity level, daily activities, and work duties. Back pain is also quite common during the postpartum period.

Round Ligament Pain:

The round ligaments of the uterus stretch as the uterus grows, and this can cause sharp pain on either side of the abdomen or at the attachment sites of the ligaments near the public bones or labia.

Postpartum Pain

After a baby is born, many women experience muscle pain while they heal. The mother’s weight has increased over the course of the pregnancy, which can apply pressure to the spine, spine discs, upper spinal curvature, and joints.

A person’s centre of gravity shifts forward, increasing their lower back’s curvature, which can result in pain and discomfort. Spinal adjustments and stretching exercises can help women improve their balance and coordination and reduce muscle tension in the days and weeks after delivery.

Is Chiropractic Care for kids safe?

Studies suggest that chiropractic care for children is safe and effective. A recent study done by the International Chiropractic Pediatric Association (ICPA) in the United States, Canada, and Europe, showed that only a few children (out of more than 10,000 visits) experienced minor discomfort and fussiness. The remaining children in the study had no adverse reactions to the adjustments.

Chiropractic care for children is gentle and appropriate for the age and size of the child’s spine and cranium. A spinal adjustment for young children involves very light fingertip pressure.
